Silver-Alone

It’s one thing to look trashy, but it’s another thing to make trash look fashionable. On Thursday, April 19, 2012, San Jose State University’s Associated Students teamed up with the community for Earth Day San Jose, a kick-off celebration of Earth Day (April 22) on SJSU’s campus. Along with eco-friendly booths, food trucks, and live music, one of our favorite events was a Trashion Fashion show hosted that evening by A.S.

This fashion show was made up of student models and designers who used eco-friendly and reusable products to show off unique outfits. While most materials used were brown paper bags, garbage bags, and newspapers, some unique ones included: coffee filters, loofahs, film canisters, reusable bags, and bubble wrap.

This fashion show was broken up into two parts; the first part was a showcase of student-designed outfits and the second part was of students who modeled clothing from Crossroads Trading Company. Crossroads is a store which buys and sells recycled clothing. They carry a variety of different brand name products for a cheaper price. This store is one of our favorites to shop at because of all the deals that can be found. For store locations near you, visit http://crossroadstrading.com, and hit the “store locator” tab.

SJSU senior advertising student, Dung Tran, took first place with a dress made out of mainly recycled paper products such as party streamers and coffee filters. Check out the rest of the stylish outfits from the fashion show below.
