Dressing up for a special event is never a simple thing to do. Whether it’s a date, girls’ night out, prom, or a film festival, everyone wants to look their best. This can get challenging when it comes down to how much money we’re willing to spend on an outfit. Purchasing items for a special event can become costly, but this doesn’t have to be the case. We’ve come up with some helpful tips for you on how to dress for that special occasion at a low cost.

This outfit is perfect for the spring season because it’s bright and fun. It can be worn in the daytime as well as at night. The floral print on the blouse makes it casual, yet the sheer fabric and ruffle detail adds a little pizzazz. To make this look more casual, you could wear jeans, but for a night out on the town, stick with leggings. (This pair was on sale for only $2 at Cotton On.) These coral heels were on sale for $7 at Payless Shoe Source! There’s no need to spend $100 on a pair of designer shoes when you can get a perfectly wearable pair for a cheaper price.

This outfit is perfect for date night. This black sequined tank top was purchased from Nordstrom Rack. This store is different from Nordstrom because it carries all of the same products from Nordstrom, just at a cheaper price. When given the choice to buy items at regular price, or for a discounted price, there’s no doubt that we would go for the discounted price! Dark-washed jeans are great for a night out because they are casual, yet dressy. This pair was purchased at TJ Maxx for around $15. Again, there is no need to purchase a pair of $200 jeans (especially if they’re ripped jeans) when you can find them for more than half that price. A favorite store of ours is DSW. This shoe warehouse is where the electric blue pumps were bought at. Originally priced for $50, they were on sale for $25! When shopping on a budget, the clearance racks should be the first section of the store you spend your time at.

This fancy little number is sure to turn some heads. This simple black tank top can be found in various clothing stores ranging from $3-$8. The belt and tights were purchases from Target. These black kitten heels were in DSW’s clearance section for $20. What a steal! Skirts make any outfit more feminine. This blue one was on sale for $7 from Forever 21. None of these items are designer items, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t look good.

Every girl needs a Little Black Dress. This LBD was purchased from Macy’s for $50. The clutch (which has a matching rhinestone) was also from Macy’s, on sale for $15. The black heels were from the clearance section at JC Penney, and the jewelry is all from miscellaneous stores at cheap prices. When shopping for dresses, one thing to note is the price versus style. If it’s a LBD, it’ll most likely be worn more than once because it’s simple. If it’s a quinceañera dress, it’ll most likely be a one time thing because they’re so extravagant. So shoot for a dress that can be worn for various different occasions.

This dress is from Group USA (aka: Camille La Vie.) This store carries dresses for special occasions at affordable prices. The periwinkle prom dress was originally $120, but on sale for $99. Outlet stores are great to shop at when looking for items for a special event. They usually carry a great selection of items at a price that won’t burn a hole in anyone’s wallet.

Searching for that perfect outfit for a big event shouldn’t be a hassle at all. It’s easy to find items to put together an outfit without breaking the bank. Looking in the right places is the first step to take. Vintage stores, outlets, consignment stores and clearance sections are the first places to go bargain hunting. The biggest thing to remember is that it’s not about the designer when it comes to clothing and accessories. (And even if a designer label means a lot to you, you can find hot brand name items for a lower price at stores like TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack.)
